2013 Jun 25

Kymberli Johnson of South Hadley was among the nearly 1,100 students to receive degrees from American International College in Springfield, Mass. Johnson, a Nursing (BSN) major, was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Some 300 undergraduate and 790 graduate degrees were awarded to students representing 11 foreign countries and 19 U.S. states. The ceremony took place May 19 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass.

93-year-old Mary Raissi Stewart, a 1942 AIC graduate, and A. Craig Brown, treasurer of the AIC Board of Trustees, received honorary degrees at the ceremony. Brown, the keynote speaker, is a member of the Springfield law firm of Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury and Murphy, P.C.,

Brown emphasized the importance the role of a volunteer played in his life and he urged the graduates to do the same. "Be a passionate volunteer," he said. "Treat others the way you want to be treated, enjoy the passage of time, and make your lives shine."

American International College is a private, coeducational institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs in the schools of Business, Arts and Sciences, Health Sciences and Graduate and Adult Education.
