Austin Orszulak Receives Yellow Jacket of the Year Award

2017 Jul 13

Austin Orszulak of Springfield, MA, majoring in Criminal Justice, received the Yellow Jacket of the Year award at American International College's (AIC) Athletic Awards ceremony this spring. The Yellow Jacket of the Year award is presented to the student-athlete who best exemplifies AIC athletics in character, talent, and spirit.

Austin, the AIC Division I men's ice hockey captain, grew up in Springfield and embodies everything that is AIC athletics. In his time at AIC, Austin proved himself as a pure goal scorer and one of the most outstanding clutch players in Yellow Jacket history. After breaking the team's single-season scoring record his sophomore year with 22 goals and 13 assists, and becoming the program's only 20-goal scorer in the Division I era, Austin was a nominee for the Hobey Baker Award and Walter Brown Award. Time and time again Austin showed his skill, with a number of late game-tying goals, and four overtime points in his career. He led the team of 13 freshmen as one of only two seniors on the team.

Austin recently graduated from AIC with a degree in criminal justice. He signed a professional contract with the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL, an affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames.
